More Days, More Time

After having worked a 4 day 10-hour work week for about three and a half years (doesn't feel like it's been that long), I thought I'd had it made. "I only work half a week! 4 out of 7 days."

But after having recently returned to the normalcy of a typical 8-hour day I began realizing how much of my week was previously dedicated to work and sleep, despite having the extra day off. The first four days of the week were basically work, doom scroll, fall asleep. Repeat. There wasn't really time in those days to do anything at all. I was more fatigued and the evening was falling fast.

Adjusting to the shorter days, with the physical/mental expectations of my previous routine, makes the days feel way shorter. The initial vibe was, "how do people get anything done in 8 hours?" The vibe is still there and I'm finding that I am back to my old self, back in "research mode", looking for things to focus on and entertain myself with during the week, and I'm actually staying up later because if feels like I actually have a day left each day as opposed to putting it in the bank for the weekend.

Considering the fact that virtually everybody else is on a similar schedule, the social life now seems more synced.

Would I have chosen this schedule? Probably not. Am I happier and more productive with it? Most definitely!
